Chris Bortz is Wrong: OTR Sheriff Patrols NOT Covered by Collaborative Agreement

At the Urban League forum on October 18, I was asked my opinion of the Collaborative Agreement.? Among other things, I stated that the sheriff patrols in Over-the-Rhine were not covered and that this was a problem.? Chris Bortz strongly criticized me and said I was completely wrong—that the sheriff patrols were in fact covered by the Collaborative Agreement and that city council would never have approved the patrols if they weren’t.? Well, Chris Bortz is the one who is completely wrong.

The much anticipated “Comprehensive Neighborhood Rescue Plan” (CNRP) has been released by City Council candidates Justin Jeffre and Michael Earl Patton.? The plan includes several innovative concepts—all of which could be utilized for the improvement of Cincinnati even if both Jeffre and Patton do not win seats on City Council.? That is the real beauty in the release of this plan—a no-strings attached blueprint for improving Cincinnati.

So the other day I took my son to Bellevue Park on Ohio Avenue to play.? As we pulled into the parking spot, he was thrilled to see that there were three other children playing—all with their father, who had a van.? The family was white.? Adjacent to the playground was another parking area, where a large group of black men were standing around, talking very loudly.?
What power in that juxtaposition!

This morning, word on the street has it that two things have happened to throw a huge monkey-wrench into the plans of corporate Democrats locally.? First, Brian Garry has reportedly stepped out of line with his party and opposed the jail tax; second, Freeman McNeil of the Cincinnati Democratic Committee has apparently paired his un-endorsement of Jeff Berding with an endorsement for Justin Jeffre.
